Hello, my name is Gaynor Fiske and I am the mental health professional working with the doctors, nurses, patient’s, the community and other services to ensure that the mental health needs of adult patients, their family / whanau and the community are met at Broadway House Medical Centre.

1963 worked at Tokanui Hospital
1967 registered as a psychiatric nurse
1988 completed training registered as a comprehensive nurse
1989 to 1992 I worked in general nursing as a registered nurse at Whangaroa Health Services Hospital.
1992 assisted with the development of the Mental Health Crisis Service in the mid and far north
Appointed a Duly Authorised Officer / Community Mental Health Nurse
1994 - 1995  trialled the Community Forensic Mental Health service in Northland.  Following extensive consultation with all consumers my proposal for this additional service was accepted I was appointed to develop and carry out the functions of Community Forensic Mental Health / Court Liaison Nurse for Northland where I remained until 2002.

Over the years I have completed a BA (Social Sciences) degree where my focus was the needs of people with mental health problems and concerned others in a community setting and a MHSc to consolidate my clinical psychiatry knowledge, medico-legal and practice skills.

Is about providing the best possible service to enhance the mental wellbeing of people with mental health problems, their family/whanau/significant others and the community in the community.

Is to work with patient’s, their family / whanau, others interested, GP’s, practice nurses, health workers, counsellors, psychologists, and interested community groups to ensure that people who are not able to cope, in spite of their best efforts, receive the services that best meet their needs.

Experience is the best teacher.
I need you to teach me how to deliver the best possible service in this community.
I can do the work, but I need you to tell me what you need and how you want these needs to be met.
For this GP based service to meet the needs of this community I need your help. Your experience and experience based knowledge will help me develop a service and the assistance needed to best meet the needs of this population.

By July 2007, this GP based service has to continue and be functioning into the future.

Please let me know what services, information, intervention, anything that you think I can do and how you think it should be done: -
